29Mpixel image sensor for industrial use
Called KAI-29052, the sensor provides up to twice the sensitivity of the existing KAI-29050 at 500-1,050nm.
“This improved performance is particularly beneficial to applications operating in near-infrared wavelengths, such as 850nm, said the firm. “Enhanced pixel design retains isolation of charge from one photodiode to another, enabling this increase in sensitivity without any reduction to image sharpness.”
On top of this, an improved amplifier reduces read noise by 15%, increasing the linear dynamic range to 66dB.
“The evolving needs of industrial imaging applications such as high end security, machine vision, and aerial surveillance and mapping require continued advancements in the portfolio of image sensors serving this market,” said industrial division v-p Herb Erhardt.
KAI-29052 is available in a RoHS-compliant CPGA-72 package in monochrome, Bayer colour, and ‘sparse colour’ configurations.
It is pin-compatible with the existing KAI-29050, as well as a family of 5.5μm and 7.4μm CCD image sensors – enabling camera manufacturers to adopt the new device.
Evaluation kits (G2-FPGA-BD-14-40-A-GEVK FPGA) for the firms family of inter-line transfer CCD sensors are available.
