Amphenol Expands Industrial Connector Production in Mexico, Targeting North American Automotive

Amphenol has announced a significant expansion of its industrial connector manufacturing capabilities in Mexico. This strategic move aims to bolster supply chain resilience and reduce lead times for key North American automotive and heavy-duty industrial clients.

Amphenol Corporation recently unveiled plans to significantly increase its production capacity for industrial-grade connectors at its existing facilities in Mexico. The expansion, which includes investments in new automated assembly lines and enhanced molding capabilities, is primarily aimed at serving the robust demand from the North American automotive sector, particularly for Electric Vehicle (EV) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) applications. This regional capacity boost is projected to come online in phases throughout late 2026 and early 2027.

Procurement managers in the automotive and heavy industrial sectors have long sought greater regionalization of their component supply chains to mitigate risks associated with geopolitical shifts and international logistics disruptions. Amphenol's investment directly addresses this need by creating a more localized and responsive supply point. The increased output is expected to alleviate some of the extended lead times observed for specific high-performance industrial connector series, which have persisted due to strong demand and previous supply chain bottlenecks.

While the initial focus is on power and signal connectors for automotive and general industrial machinery, the expanded capabilities are also designed to offer greater flexibility for other high-reliability applications. This includes certain types of harsh-environment circular connectors and board-to-board solutions that require stringent quality control and high-volume consistency. The move is a clear indicator of a broader industry trend towards nearshoring and friendshoring manufacturing operations to optimize delivery schedules and enhance supply security within critical markets.
