MLCC Lead Times Lengthen for Q3 2026 as Automotive and Industrial Demand Outstrips Supply

Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC) lead times are extending into Q3 2026, primarily affecting automotive and industrial grade components. Strong, sustained demand in these sectors is outpacing manufacturing capacity expansions, leading to potential supply bottlenecks.

The global market for Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs) is experiencing a notable tightening in supply, with lead times for specific high-reliability and high-capacitance parts extending significantly into the third quarter of 2026. This trend is particularly pronounced in components destined for the automotive and industrial electronics sectors, where increased electrification, sophisticated ADAS systems, and the proliferation of IoT devices continue to fuel robust demand.

Major MLCC manufacturers have been implementing strategic capacity expansions over the past several quarters. However, the sheer volume and specialized requirements of automotive and industrial applications mean that these expansions are struggling to keep pace with the aggressive growth curves. While standard commercial-grade MLCCs show more stability, the scarcity is acute for parts requiring AEC-Q200 qualification or those engineered for high-temperature and high-voltage environments.

Procurement managers are advised to proactively engage with their suppliers, forecasting demands several quarters out to secure allocations for critical projects. The current situation suggests that spot market availability for affected MLCC types will remain constrained, and premiums are likely to solidify. Diversification of the supply base, where feasible, could also mitigate risks in this increasingly tight market segment.
